چکیده

This study utilized the integrated theoretical model (ITM) to assess strategies to ameliorate screening for sickle hemoglobinopathies in the age of genomic medicine. Also discussed, is the relevance of predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory interventions. Comparison was made between universal and targeted screening. The international guidelines for neonatal screening were reiterated. The self-efficacy and empowerment of mothers is crucial in ensuring that they effectively participate in the treatment and follow-up of their new-born babies. We emphasized the compliance with the ethical, legal and social implications of newborn screening for genetic diseases. [E. William Ebomoyi.
